I find it really difficult to wear an pants with a put-together outfit. But as I'm in college now, I've acquired quite a few more pairs of pants to be more practical.

How great are these cords? Orcas Island has a thrift store/dump called the Exchange run by volunteers, where people can bring stuff in exchange for the clothes/things there or give a donation. These are a little small in the waist, but I don't care, I squeeze into em cause they're too cool!

So this weekend, while procrastinating from a horrid essay that is due next week, I was browsing through my favorite nail tumblr, fuck yeah nail art, and saw this amazing design!

Colors: disco teal, urban outfitters pink 4, opi shrek collection purple, american apparel mustard, forever 21 love and beauty coral.

As a base, I used a mix of a couple whites (because I didn't have a white white) to get a decent color.

I would have used toothpicks, but couldn't find any, so I used the back of my rat-tail comb.

My classes this quarter are Art History, Political Science, and Philosophy. I really like all of them, and my professors are quite interesting, but I can't wait to get into my major. I have to finish writing a five-page essay for art history tonight... Uh oh!

Camp Update!

Hello, hello, hello!

I am having the summer of my life at camp! I don't have very good wifi or opportunities to take outfit photos, so I hope this photo taken by the camp photographer will do for now! I miss the blogging world oh so much! I get back from camp at the end of August! I have been making lots of friendship bracelets and beaded bracelets and leather bracelets! I'll have lots of new craft tutorials for ya when I get back. In terms of the fashion realm, I have acquired quite a few new items, thanks to the fantastic consignment store on the island, as well as the dump! (I'm not kidding, more on that later.) Maxi skirts galore! :) I also just got my new Warby Parkers, and they are wonderful to say the least. I'm in love!

So this week was my graduation, and to say the least, I have been crazy busy. My grandpa came from Japan, Senior Sunset, parties with friends, Baccalaureate, Graduation, Grad Night, family pictures, lunch with friends for the last time... I have barely had time to check the internet (save Facebook). And tomorrow is my Grad Party, then Sunday I leave for the wonderful world of summer camp. Oh, and another reason I haven't been blogging is that I can't figure out how to add pictures! It seems like the "add pictures" button is broken and it won't bring up that new window....

Well anyways, I will be gone at camp for the whole summer! I will be back in September, I adore you all! (And Seattle bloggers, let's get together in the Fall, yes?)

Artsy Mondays: Fawkes

This is one of my pieces for my Harry Potter concentration. I also had kind of a mini-theme within my concentration of patronuses, and since a phoenix is Dumbledore's patronus, this sort of counts as that.

The background is acrylics on canvas - the swirls are inspired by Chinese art. Fawkes is actually a scratchboard that I scratched, then colored with oil pastels and cut out. I really loved the way this turned out! :)

Artsy Mondays: Mother's Day

Thanks for the kind comments on my AP Post, haha! Today was AP Bio, the hardest one, and I'm glad to say that it went okay! It's such a relief.
This is what I made for my mom for Mother's Day! These are little mini-canvases (5 inches) that are cute because you can put them together in any way that you like - all four in a line or in a square. These were really quick and fun to make (Acrylics) so I'm thinking I could sell these on Etsy, perhaps?

That's all. I must get back to studying - only 2 more tests left!

AP Week: An In-Depth Analysis

May 2 - 13. Also known as hell week. As a senior, thank College Board that this is my last. I just keep thinking to myself, after Wednesday (my last test), my life will be SO much easier.

"Wait, there's a test today?"

So instead of apologizing for my lack of posting, I'd like to show you a glimpse into my life the past week.

"Shit, I never learned this!"

Okay, just kidding. I don't really wear sweatpants in public and my hair doesn't really look like this. I was initially planning on doing "Maxi AP!" and wear only maxi dresses/skirts for my tests in solidarity against the horror that is sweat pants/yoga pants. but it's been pouring for the past week, and I don't really want to get the hem of my skirt wet before taking a 3-4 hour long test. Thanks, Seattle.

"Is there any coffee left? I NEED CAFFEINE!"

Best of... the Met Gala 2011

So I usually don't spend a lot of time looking at celeb fashion, except the occasional "Who wore it best?" poll on People. But the Met Gala is the prom of all red carpet events, where the best of the best in couture come out to play.
Michelle Williams - favorite dress of the night. The birds are just so Miu Miu, and are super cute without being tacky.
Ashley Greene - this is the ultimate princess dress. I'm in love.
Rumer Willis clearly outdid her mother. (what's up with the hat?) It's so dramatic and dark, I love the cutouts detail as well. Her hair looks fantastic.
Oh, Ciara. This look was almost my #1. Almost. You know why it wasn't? The Miley Cyrus whore hair. You're like what, how old? I think you should know how to put your hair in a chic chignon by now. But that dress is so breathtaking. How it transitions from crystals to feathers? Genius.
I think this may be the first time I have seen Maggie Gyllenhaal not looking like a hippie preschool teacher. This is so glam - the right way to do sequins!
Liv Tyler - this is the perfect dress for this girl, and so very Givenchy. Again with the feathers - it's so glamorous! And way to play up the yellow with the clutch! (Without it, the yellow feathers would have looked stained...)
Other close favorites were Emma Stone, SJP, Diane Kruger, Nicole Richie, Isla Fisher, Emma Roberts, Evan Rachel Wood, and Elizabeth Banks. (See People for all the pics - beautiful and horrendous!)

Artsy Mondays: Corals

So I first started out my concentration with an environmental theme. (I changed it to Harry Potter!) So this is a sort of before and after of the effects of acidification, blast fishing, rising temperatures, etc.
I used watercolors on thick paper (not watercolor paper, I wanted a warped look), and used an exacto-knife to cut out each coral. The background is modgepodged tissue paper on a canvas.

Oh my goodness, I am so in love with my new jean jacket! It's so versatile and just goes with everything! (other than jeans, of course.) Some days I just don't feel like wearing a sweater, ya know?
I also really liked the juxtaposition between the flowyness of the batwing shirt and the draped skirt against the structured denim.

And to keep things casual and springy, some TOMS!

I can't wait for my package from Naturalizer to get here! It'll be my motivation to study for AP's....

So thanks to Adored Austin, I won a Naturalizer giveaway a couple weeks back! It took me a long time to decide which of the shoes to get, I finally settled on these two.
AH! Look how cute these espadrilles are! How adorable are those lobsters?
There were so many cute sandals and heels, but I already have so many sandals that I thought I'd go for something else.
I thought this purse would be perfect for holding notebooks, textbooks, and more for school purposes next year!
So many compartments! I love organizable purses!!
I think these should come in the mail in the next week or so! AP motivation, haha. Okay, back to studying AP Stats.

Artsy Mondays: Birdwatching

Since you guys seemed to enjoy my art when I posted it as a gimmicky apology in this post, I thought I'd show you guys my art every Monday, in place of Crafty Mondays. (RIP, but soon to be resurrected) This one is ironically called 'Birdwatching' because it is quite literally from the bird's perspective. It is a Hokusai-style carved stamp piece that I did in my 2D Art 2 class in Junior year. As you can see below, I did multiple copies of it in different colors and papers! It's fun because I still have the stamp and I can pull it out at any time. (Made a great teacher gift!)

Basically, Seattle has three seasons. Winter lasts from October to April. It rains 40% of the time, and is cloudy 50% of the time, and 10% there's nice but cold weather. Summer is from May to September. It's cloudy from May to June, but slightly warmer than winter. And in August, we often have a few days of unbearable hotness. There's not really a spring, or a fall.

This is a pretty casual outfit, but perfect for weather like this. The day starts out grey, so you're not really sure if it's going to be sunny or start a downpour. So if it turns out sunny, I take off my cardigan and the t-shirt is just short sleeves. If it's raining, pop on a rain coat and the boots will keep my feet dry as I splash my way through the parking lot. I should do a "quintessential Seattle" post. It would be like... a North Face jacket, a rain coat over that, jeans, and rain boots. hahaa.
I love these boots! Because they're from F21, I wasn't expecting them to be that waterproof, but the other day I accidentally stumbled into a huge puddle, and it kept my feet completely dry! But for college next year, I just bought a pair of red rain boots. Ironically enough, last week when I ordered them, it was pouring like crazy! But this week, once I got them in the mail, it's been pretty nice weather.
A friend got me this necklace for my birthday a couple years back. It says "wish", and on the back is a star. It took me literally like years to figure out that the two were connected - "wish upon a star!"

I just reread this post and wow, I didn't mean to talk so much about the weather, haha! I guess that's just how I get dressed in the morning, so in my mind, it's what was the catalyst for each outfit. Okay, tata!

Crafty Mondays: Multicolored Braid

So... I'm starting to run low on Crafty Monday posts. So they may just turn in to Artsy Mondays - then I can show you my art!
Materials:

- scissors

- colorful fabric (this fabric is from Japan, I believe)

- needle

- thread
Cut your fabric to make 3 long strips. Make sure that they are about 1.5x the size of your head - the braiding will make it shorter. (Always better to have more than less). Then stack the three and stitch them together. Tape that end to a desk or some surface, and start braiding. Because the strips are so long, the ends might get a little knotted, so make sure you do it slowly. Once you reach the end, measure and cut to fit your head. Then, pinch that unfinished end to the beginning and stitch them together. It doesn't matter if it's messy - it's just the back.
Voila, the end!

Last weekend, we had a few days of sun in our torrential (3 week-long!) downpour of rain, and I took the opportunity to catch up on outfits I wasn't able to get photos of!

Meet my beautiful new bag! He's from Urban Outfitters, on sale for only $20! I'm in love. I haven't had a big purse in a long time, and am kind of at a loss as to how to fill it! Then I discovered the wonders of being able to fit a small cardigan, camera, notebook, water bottle, makeup pouch... so much more! It's like a cute tote bag!
Charlotte of Girlnextdoor Fashion is always looking cute in knee-high/OTK socks, but since I'm so short (5'0... yep!), whenever I try, it just ends up looking like tights since they get covered by the skirt! Haha! But I think this worked out okay, with the short skirt.

Oh, and you guys will not believe this! I won another giveaway! I know, I'm on a roll. Adored Austin was doing a giveaway for Naturalizer a few weeks back, and now I've won $100!

I loved layering this swingy cardi! I guess my fashion philosophy/how I get dressed in the morning is mainly based on the idea of balance. Color, proportions, etc. The tight skirt and fitted tank balanced out the shapeless cardigan. And even though this whole outfit is grey/black, the sparkles on the tank kind of jazzed it up! And then from keeping it from getting too dressy, I threw on some Toms.
I am so so excited for college. Sunday, I went to visit the school I'll be attending come fall, and fell in love all over again! Can I please just skip AP season and fast forward to summer? So done with high school.

This tank was one of my Black Friday purchases, I believe! It was $10, but UO was having 50% off on sale items, so it was $5!

Karen Kane!

Just a really quick update! Today, I met with Angie from Karen Kane for the giveaway that I won on Zipped! I had such a blast and now I'm really excited to dress up the clothes that I received! I was really surprised to find out that most of Karen Kane's clothing is made in the US - a great incentive to buy ethically made clothing.
I was able to get three things - a floral top/tunic (haha, you know me!), a white blouse tunic, and then a green tank. (This tank is THE softest thing in the world. I'm in love.)

More to come, once the weather gets nice enough for me to take pictures! In the meantime, expect pictures I stocked up on from last week.

Crafty Mondays: Tea and Coffee

This headband is perfect to wear with some plaid and a denim skirt... ah so cute!
Materials:

- brown-beige ribbon... haha, I just found it in my mom's craft drawer

- ribbon flower

- plaid fabric

- red floral fabric

- buttons

- hair tie

I made the fabric flowers the same way as I did here. For the black and red one, I layered one large flower and a small one! Easy peasy. For the ribbon flowers, I just happened to find that one in my mom's craft drawer, but I think you can make a similar one with this tutorial!

Then sew everything together arranged however you'd like! The back can be messy... No one will look there.

Then attach the ends with a hair tie as shown!
And voila! You're done. Hope you enjoyed!

I love Spring Awakening. This is no secret. So when I saw this dress on the F21 website, I had to had to have it! It's pretty much the same material as Wendla's dress, except more fitted and with a babydoll design. Then I saw Simply Sunstar wearing it, and saying that she was planning on returning it, so I held off on ordering it. When I tried it on at the store, the length was actually fine on me, so I got it!

Crafty Mondays: Pleated Flower!

Last year, I bought a dress at Value Village for my AP Lang's Gatsby play. It was for my friend's character, but about a month ago, I asked her if I could have it, since she never wore it. I trimmed the hem considerably, and had a bunch of left over navy blue pleated material. So, I made a headband!

Materials:

- stretchy band stuff

- button

- pleated fabric
Instructions:

1. Cut five petals into a "D" shape

2. Scrunch each petal into a desirable petal shape, and sew the bottom

3. Attach the five petals to the headband

4. Attach a button

5. Wear!
Easy peasy!

I walk around the house in them, trying to get used to the height (I measured, 5 inches!) but I feel like tipping over.

So I was playing dress-up today and frolicking in the sun and celebrating finishing 2 essays in 3 days (I work well under pressure... or procrastination).

Crafty Mondays: Friendship Headband!

So, as many of you know, I spent my last summer as a camp counselor, and of course, I made tons and tons of friendship bracelets. Then, one day as I was making this bracelet, I thought of a great idea - why not get a lot more string and make this into a headband?
So, if any of you don't know how to make a V-patterned friendship bracelet, it's pretty simple. You start out the same way you would a normal bracelet, but you stop once you get halfway, and go from the other edge, meet the other half you did, and tie the two strings together. Didn't make sense? Follow THIS tutorial, or THIS video tutorial. You can make it as thick or as thin as you want.
So I kind of failed when I did this, and didn't make my string nearly long enough, so I had to improvise and made this thing to connect the ends. Well, it doesn't really matter, because it's the back of your head.
Oh, and other big news you guys! I won Zipped's $200 Karen Kane giveaway! Crazy, right?? Yeah, I couldn't believe it. Hopefully soon, you'll see me sporting my new floral dresses... :D

I bought some gum today. Don't you hate it whenever you pull out some gum, everyone around you turns around and asks for a piece? I used to always keep my good gum, as well as some gum that I bought a huge pack of but ended up not liking. So whenever someone would ask for a piece, I'd be eating the good gum, while I'd give the person the crappy gum. Haha!

OMG you guys, I found this sweater-cardi at Value Village a couple weekends ago... And it's the softest thing known to man. Plus, it's Benetton and I got it for like $10. My house is perpetually freezing, so it's fantastic to just throw over some sweats or yoga pants (guilty as charged!).

I suppose Benetton isn't that big of a brand in America, but it's huge in Japan. I was bragging to friends about my thrifting skills, but nobody seemed to have heard of Benetton.

Crafty Mondays: Ketchup and Mustard!

I literally have sat here for the last ten minutes trying to think of what to name this headband... "Flowers" seemed a little too boring (plus I have another headband with flowers on it), so I decided to go with the red+yellow theme that Girlnextdoor Fashion named hers! Hooray for copycats, haha.

So, this headband is a bit more complicated than last week's.
Materials:

- thick ribbon (I chose navy)

- various scraps of fabric (pinkey-white, mustard, and red)

- needle + thread

- buttons

- scissors

- hair tie
To make the yellow flower, I sewed along the edges of the fabric (cut into a D shape) and scrunched it all up at the end to make the petal shape. Repeat this four more times, and then sew the five petals together, and add a button. This takes a little while, but the result is SO cute.

(see the underside:)
For the plain flowers, cut out a circle shape about twice as big as you'd like your flower to be. Then sew along the edge and bunch it up at the end, and squish it down. Voila, you have a flower! Add a button to the center and you're set.
For the last step, sew the flowers in an arrangement you'd like to the ribbon. It doesn't really matter how horrible your stitches are, it's the back of the headband!
And the finished product! (haha the wood one says "I love H81" on it... must have been from those F21 shorts!

See the title. Yeah. Today's weather has been exceptionally weird - it's been around forty or fifty degrees today, then suddenly it started hailing, HARD. It's also been windy today, so the hail was literally going sideways. Then the hail turned to rain and next thing you know it was sunny. Yeah... the weather has been confused and just dumped everything on us.

Crafty Mondays: Sailor's Knot

Today marks the beginning of a new segment here on Accio Hagrid! I'd like to introduce to you the Crafty Mondays! I'll be posting new craft ideas that I've either made up on my own or that I've seen somewhere else. Hooray for DIY!

This is what I call the Sailor's Knot. I saw this, and knew I had to recreate it! (Next time, I should do it with some more expensive-looking string. This is just what I happened to have lying around my house. Don't ask me why I have string, my mother is the craft queen.)

Materials needed:

string (lots of it. the length depends on head size.)

felt (black, or brown)

hair tie

scissors

glue gun

First, you'll need to cut your rope to the desired length. I measured mine by folding two segments of rope in half, kind of layering them over each other and putting it up to my head. Sorry that's not too accurate, but that's what the hair band/stretchyness is for!

Now, the hardest part for me was figuring out how to do the darned knot! I searched for a good hour on YouTube for this knot tutorial, but I couldn't find the one I wanted. So, I just looked at the above picture and kind of made it up!

As you can see below, I have a helpfully color-coded picture! Say the blue one is string 1, and the red is string 2. Make a loop with string 1, and make sure that the bottom end is the one on top. Then, weave string 2 through the existing loop that you've created with string 1. Going from the top, you'll do under, under, over, under, over, under, over. This may take a few tries if you're not very visual.

The next step is the closure - what are you going to do with eight ends? (four on each side) Solution: Cut a rectangle shape out of black felt, glue the strings to it, attach a hair band, and glue as you fold it over. Do the same to the other side, and don't forget to attach the hair band!

and... Voila! You have a cute new sailor-style headband! I will post a look featuring this headband later in the week, so look forward to that. Tata!

Snow Day!

So you've all probably seen Delightfully Tacky's post, but if you haven't, we finally got snow in Seattle! I took these after a long day of sunshine, so most of our 3-4 inches had already melted away. Now there's talk of more snow tonight?!?

How have I neglected to talk about this?? Gaga's Born This Way came out ages ago. I don't care if it copies Madonna, I don't care if the music is a little meh compared to the Fame Monster. The temps have been around freezing here, and it snowed all day yesterday. Alas, it was too warm for any of it to stick to the ground, hence the snow-less backdrop of today! Luckily the school district panicked at the supposed 90% chance of snow for today and cancelled school! Sleeping in is so fantastic.

Here's another headband that I made! This one is super easy.

Materials needed:

- old t-shirt

- scissors

- hairband

- needle & thread

Just braid three strips from your old tee together, long enough to make two strands. Then sew the ends together and around a headband to connect the ends and as a stretching device! Easy peasy.

A friend recently made me a mix CD of Florence + the Machine and I'm in LOVE. Can't stop listening. :D

I'm loving these booties I bought in Portland. I've been wanting a flat version of these heels that I wear often. They're okay for just wearing to school, but any longer than 6 hours and I'm dragging my feet.

But we're heading to Portland for the weekend, so I probably won't get back to blogging for a while.

Have you been following Girlnextdoor Fashion's Jean Challenge? I completely feel the same way as Charlotte - I'd rather wear skirts and dresses than jeans any day of the week. (well, except yoga pants in the privacy of my home.) I guess I wear jeans much more frequently than she does, but still, my friends poke fun at me and say that I'm allergic to them!! Because I'm so short (5'0!) and not rail-thin, it's really hard to find jeans that fit me. So the ones I have are ill-fitting and uncomfortable - resulting in my favoring tights and leggings.

Yesterday, a good friend and I took a trip to Seattle to see the Harry Potter Exhibition! It was fantastic. Seeing all of those costumes, props, and models right in front of my eyes was too exciting! The gift shop, alas, was very disappointing - everything was way overpriced, and the tee-shirts were unoriginal.

Okay, I just spent about 10 minutes going through Kendi's blog to find evidence of an outfit similar to this... and I have found it! The outfit twin! The resemblance is uncanny.

So my weekend plans have been set up - Friday my friend and I are going to the Harry Potter exhibition in Seattle, and then Saturday we're going again downtown to see Dr. Horrible at the ACT theater!

(black swan... cough) as if you're not sick of the references already. Actually, I haven't seen the film, so I can't say that it inspired me. Also, I bought this skirt around 3 or 4 years ago.

If you're not from the Northwest/the US and you're unfamiliar with Sasquatch, it's a 3-day long music festival at the Gorge Amphitheater, a natural amphitheater located on the Columbia River Gorge. I've always wanted to go, but the trip over there and the tickets really weren't worth the lineup in past years. But this year? I have to make this happen.

I really really loved wearing this outfit! It actually started centered around the heels (which were $6, by the way). I figured the magenta tights would show them off the best, and then decided that the grey skirt would neutralize the bright color, and worked my way up the rest of the outfit.

This weekend was quite eventful - went to visit a college, then to a funeral, then worked on a project with a friend, and then played Nancy Drew with another friend. (PS THEY ARE SO ADDICTING. omg.)

I have so many good ideas right now for DIY headbands and other crafts, all I need is the time to make them!! I'd love to then start an etsy store!
